Who wants to see a movie?

by Dubbers

There are so many projects being made now that it’s hard to keep up with all of them! What am I talking about? Well, CGI and animated movies of course. Shrek 2, Sharkslayer, Disney’s Brother Bear, Garfield, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action just to name a few. But why am I so interested in these types of movies? What profound reason would I, a 29 year old man, have to want to bring up this topic? Well it’s quite simple really….I LOVE ANIMATION!

Ever since I was a young lad, I remember sitting in front of the TV and watching “Justice League of America” and “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” and of course, my all time favorite, Warner Brothers’ Looney Tunes. And all I wanted to do when I grew up was get my hand in that business somehow! I tried drawing, but unfortunately, that talent has escaped me and the proprietor of this website holds that key. So, I looked for a different way to become what I wanted to be. I began to mimic the sounds I heard on the cartoons. That was ok for a while, but then I found out that not all cartoon sounds are man-made. Well, I didn’t want to just stomp on a gravel floor or slam a pan into a wall….I wanted to see my name in the credits! So, I started to mimic the voices I heard. And not just cartoon voices, but regular people’s voices. Mostly ones from other countries, and I began to speak with accents. British, Scottish, Australian, French and even Canadian, eh! So my mission was clear…to make my mark in animation by doing voice-over work!

Now, to my first point…with all the animation movies that are coming out and even the new ones that are hitting the TV screen, there’s got to be somewhere I can get my foot in the door, right? I’ve looked into voice acting, read up on the subject, listen to the pros talk about how they got started and such, but there’s just a couple things holding me back. First, I need to make a tape. But how to make a tape when you don’t have a recording studio handy? I also need to make my way to Florida (that’s where I’d love to end up and spend the rest of my natural born life!) and break into the business somehow. So many options and possibilities. But, my son needs me as close by as I can be. I can’t leave him. And my wife-to-be doesn’t want to move to Florida because she says too much extreme heat makes her nauseous. (So why does she spend so much time (AND MONEY) lying in a tanning bed???) So, for now, I must continue to reside and live in the bloody Midwest fridged tundra! And watch, as other people fullfil their dreams of making it in the voice acting business and I waste away here. Sigh. Maybe dreams aren’t meant for everyone.
